I would say that their dNa was very rich. That the punnett square would be extended to their genetic heritage. Maybe their feature were recessive. I have a cousins who looks like neither of his parents, also he resembles a cousin of his who also doesn't look like either of her parents. But they have strong german genes in their lineage.
