How do I get my 28 month old son to give up his pacifier "addiction"?

I need some tips to help me get my son to give up his "binky". He only has one when he is at home and he can go without it for brief periods of time,(a couple of hours tops) but anytime he realizes he doesn't have it, he cries until we produce one. He also has an extreme attachment to a gloworm stuffed toy. He usually needs it when he wants the bink. My main concern is the pacifier, but I want him to give it up, I don't want to take it. FYI-He was an only child until 2 months ago, and he does not have a lot of interaction with other children so he is desparetly attached to these things. Please help me.
