Tenant is cop who finally got evicted but destroyed property?

my tenant is a cop who lives with his baby mama and her two kids. he would only come on the weekends and she would be there with the two kids all the time. she didnt pay rent on time and he didnt answer the phone. he said he was living somewhere else. eventually i started the eviction in decemeber and they just got evicted today.. 3 months rent not paid. the boiler was ruined since he did not pay for utitlies which he was responsible for. gas company shut the heat and hot water off causing the damage to the boiler. i have to pay $4000 out of my pocket now. when i asked him for the key, the cop threatened me. so i called the authorities. i dont know where he moved to but the damages are more than $10,000 to the house. i only got one month deposit which i did not put in the bank for interest. will that be a problem? should i call his sergeant to report him? my friends are telling me to not bother and suck it up. the lawyers dont want to take the case since he threatened me. I am in NJ
